Melbourne, Australia – In a strategic move that underscores its commitment to academic excellence and innovative research, Swinburne University of Technology has announced the appointment of Professor Tien Kieu to its Council. This significant appointment marks a new chapter in the university's journey towards achieving its ambitious Horizon 2025 goals.

Renowned for his extensive expertise in quantum physics and quantum computation, Professor Kieu has been a part of the Swinburne community for over a decade, serving as an Adjunct Professor at the Centre for Quantum Technology Theory since 2009. His impressive academic journey, which began after he arrived in Australia as a Vietnamese refugee in 1980, includes a Bachelor of Science (Hons) from the University of Queensland and a PhD in Theoretical Physics from the University of Edinburgh.

Beyond academia, Professor Kieu's career spans various sectors. He has held positions at international institutions like the University of Oxford, the University of Melbourne, and CSIRO, and has been a Fulbright Fellow and visiting scholar at leading universities such as Columbia, MIT, and the Princeton Institute for Advanced Study. His political career is equally distinguished, having served as a Member of the Victorian Legislative Council from 2018 to 2022.

Chancellor of Swinburne University, Professor John Pollaers OAM, expressed his delight at Professor Kieu's appointment, citing his extensive background in both academia and public service as invaluable assets for the university's future endeavors.
